Attachment FAQ
Posted on Dec 03 in Attachmentby adminPrint>
These are some of the frequently asked questions and our answers regarding the attachment:
Q : I want to go home during summer! I don’t want to do attachment! Can I?
A : The attachment course is compulsory for all 3rd, 4th and 5th year students. You will be fined (approximately 2000 usd) if you miss your summer practicals. After all, we are all students and practical skills is important and crucial for us, especially in the working field (during our housemanship) and further in the future. We advise our fellow students to take this positively and guys, let’s look forward into it!
-
Q : Will we be allowed to perform proper procedures/practical skills on patients, not just physical examinations ?
A : Yes of course, with supervision, and that is what the academy is promising us. Besides that, each student will be given a small textbook/manual of practical skills.
-
Q : Why can’t we do it during winter? Or during our academic classes?
A : We have came out with a proposal stating these and had submitted it to the Dean’s office. It is still under consideration. The Dean’s is yet to issue any paperwork regarding this matter (of the attachment and our proposal). However, from their responses , the chances of us doing our attachment during winter / academic classes is slim due to the following reasons :
Winter : 3rd & 5th year students have finals in January. In addition, there is at least 10 days break for the hospital staffs ( for New Year and Christmas ) and therefore, lack of manpower to teach and to assist us.
Academic classes : We are required to be in the hospital up to 6 hours a day, 5 days a week. Therefore, we don’t have sufficient time after classes.

Thank You.

is it possible not to do our attachment in moscow, maybe doing it in other University in russia, or other european countries, or asian countries?
If no, pls tell me tell me why?
We have not come out with such suggestion to the Dean’s yet, though we had thought about it, due to the simple reason that not all students are capable of doing such and we had to come out with a proposal that suits everyone best. However, during our next meeting we would approach him with this matter. In addition, doing attachment in different countries would be on your own expenses.
i think stay back in moscow is on my own expenses too~ =P
everyone has their own choices
please speak for us
thanks!!
we’re enough of russian hospital….:(
good job guys!!!!!!
Why cant we do it Malaysia? It will be easier that way or everyone…..
ask the MMC
they made us into such situation…
Would our practicals being BROUGHT FORWARD to WINTER 2011 like what Kusk students ?
http://ekmsa.com/
They will have their normal summer July-August 2010 break in Malaysia.
Could we?
Thank you for your information. Our President have contacted KSMA president and according to them, in Kursk Medical State University, students may enter the university in September or February. (In MMA, we have only September intake). Therefore, they have both winter and summer practicals. Regarding their practicals being brought forward, their dean’s office decided to do so because one of the batches have already done their practicals once and they would like to standardize the syllabus of their practicals. In KSMU, those who skip their practicals are also required to pay fine and their 6th year students are STILL required to do their practicals. Please be informed.
The main reasons we want to do practical in malaysia is becoz we want to adapt with the situation and to familiarize with malaysia medical procedure..n want to get to know the type of diseases that are common in malaysia right? in addition bcoz we want to go back home to our family..so now our goverment said we cannot do practical in malaysia..so why bother to do in other countries when we can do it here in russia for free?
ok..maybe some of u think that we just can observe n cannot do hands on procedure here..but are u sure about it? this is the first time compulsory for us to do it here..so why dont we give it a shot first?
maybe some of you said it is all about language barrier…if u want to go to other country..i mean if not an english country..u will face the same prob right?
why dont we just open up our mind and blame ourselves for not mastering the language after 4-5 years living here in this country..everyone is supposed to be proud if they master another language..but what about us? think for urself
I like this comment. By the way, Thanks.
=) how do you know others don’t know other language?
really you think that all of MMA students wanna go back to work after graduation?
everybody has his own dream, why u wanna give a direction to other and ask him to do whatever you say?
are you sure that you’re giving the best direction to him or her?
don’t you think that going other countries may open your eye let you see more things, and open your “mind” as well?
have you read history?
i guess, very little of famous physicians, scientists or somebody, just staying in a place, and kept doing experiments, practising something.. and become famous!
you read about an argentina politician?
after he travelled (in detail i’m not sure) around the AMERICA and back to his motherland and started a revolution.. saved his country.
hehe.. of course i think doing in russia is better than doing in malaysia!
i did in malaysia before, the doctors are arrogant, not really like to share their “knowledge”…
in GH which i did…
so quite dissappointed doing it in malaysia, i was planning doing it in russia!
this’s a good news to me our MMC wanna us doing it in russia!
=)
about going to other countries, world is so wide and board, many things we never see, i encourage students who have no finacial problem, just give yourself a chance, open our limited vision, make it boarder!!!
( that why you always heard your professor said, they would go for a conference “next week no class” —- happy? =) )
ouh i apologize if i am wrong about the language.. i like the way u think..i can see ur vision here..u re going to be a great person in the future =)
if everybody think like u maybe one day malaysia will be one of the most advance country in the world..
nobody is giving direction to anybody here..the only one who r giving directions n commands here is the MMC itself..and its good for u coz u are not against them n willing to do ur practical here in russia..
u r right..maybe they dont know what is the best for us..so i think it shud be this way..if anyone who dont want to work in malaysia after graduating maybe they just can ignore this practical coz however they are not going to find job tru interview with the MMC..
SO guyS..dont let ur dreams slip away..just go for it!!
oh ben, such a nice reply, i love this very much!
let’s go korea together…..:p
Btw, i don’t mean that doing it in Russia is not good, but, this is my LAST practical before we become HO(5th yr), so, we would like to waste any chance to learn, like what ben said, later, we won’t have class for a week and rot in this hot moscow (summer)
and also, since this is the first time, no one can guarantee how good or bad will the practical course be…..so, we should have our choices to choose!
I know the final decision is going to be made by the dean n MMC, but, as the elected board members of Student Council., pls do speak for us.
Thanks alot!!!
not everyone wants to go back to malaysia to work. agree. thanks to having summer practicals back at home, though. without it, we wouldn’t have known how the situation is over there back at home. I am quite disappointed and sad about it.
all i wish to know is the final conclusion as soon as possible. there’s no use in changing the dates and making any other proposal that makes life more difficult. No use changing dates to winter or anything, it’s just so time consuming (wasting) to make such proposals coz in the end, everything is in vain and we students who are waiting eagerly for answers to make future plans of ours will be the main victims.
It’s life, live it or leave it!
Just a few simple questions, i believe the SMSA can help answer them easily and asap
1. is it compulsory to do it here?
2. If yes, from when til when.
3. If no, that’s great!!!
Just that simple.
1. Yes
2. We still haven’t get the schedule yet.
speed up please. thanks!
Nizhny may have chance to do their practical during winter and cycle break. Their Practical Teachers are coming up with a plan to negotiate with the Rektor so that their request can be fullfill.
http://msa-nizhny.blogspot.com/
Why cant our dekanat come up with a plan to enable us to do in winter break/even during shorter time in july?
As you can see in their website, it is still under consideration. We have already submitted our proposal to our dean’s office as well (Refer to Attachment FAQ, Question No. 3). However, it is still under their consideration. We do not want to give false hope, but we are still trying our best to push them. We can only hope for the best.
I personally think that the word ATTACHMENT
is not suitable in the very beginning of the situation.
Just because students have their rights to choose how to use their own holidays. =)
However, ELECTIVE POSTING should be replaced.
the word ELECTIVE gives student the rights choose to do or not to do.
I personally thinks that elective posting or attachment is TOTALLY VOLUNTARY. =)
For instances,
1. Passionate students can choose to do their elective posting in other countries,
2. Passive students can lay back and enjoys their holidays,
3. while those who wanted both learning & holidays back in malaysia can choose to do it in Private Hospitals. ( eg. Tung Shin Hospital KL, Normah Hospital Kuching.)
As the Advantages,
1. Government Hospitals will not be overfilled by Woody students from Russia.
2. Students can have chances to go out to another country to for further exposure.
3. Lazy Dekanat will not have problems, cracking their idiotic heads to organize Summer practical course for us.
4. Passive students can still rot back under the sunny beaches back in malaysia like nothing ever happens before.
I again, personally think that the direction to solve this issue is INCORRECT at the very beginning. I hope SMSA can shift us back to the course.
Thank You
Imagine there’s no Heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
You may say that I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one
IMAGINE! and DREAM!
may i do my attachment in malaysia?
Attachment in Russia is compulsory. If you want to continue your elective attachment in Malaysia after finishing the required hours in Russia, you may still do so.
may i share a few words…
the only reason why this issue was brought up was because many HO (grads from Russia and Ukraine) when return to work after graduating showed poor clinical skills – from identifying problems, running basic investigations to clinical judgment. As a result a com. was set up to furhter investigate this as it was agreed that such grads were under trained. It was understood that it was unfair just to produce medical grads and not equip them with clinical skills. What the uni has been doing so far can be considered unfair, dumping the burden of the teaching us with clinical skill to the malaysian doctors,
if we sit back and look at it, as it is you are burden with hundreds of patients daily and to add it up dealing with local medical students makes life difficult, then you have to teach overseas grad, that makes it very chalenging!! to make matters worse some overseas graduates do not show any initiative or interest to learn and of course there are some who do not know what a syringe is (trust me, speaking with experience), this is why you get arrogant doctors, and trust me i dont blame them, i too had my share when i had to teach some students over here – it wasnt pleasant!!
so that it why, the russian university were asked to teach and train you guys before sending you guys over,
then question arrises, whts with the elective attachment, now this is the part where you can say that is meant for updating you with the local disease.
its not gonna be easy as u guys are the guinea pigs but show and demand all you can from them after all you are PAYING for it!! Equip yourselves with all the knowledge and come back with a heart to learn your HOShip wud be a breeze.
just as rough guide, things you wanna pick up during your attachment:-
1. History (adequate history allows us to make diagnosis in 80% of cases)
2. Physical examination, do it systematically from head to toe, run through each system
3. Auscultation – Lungs – identify crepts and ronchi
CVS – knw whts normal S1S2,
4. Cranial Nerve and Peripheral Nerve examination
5. Intravenous, learn how to set a line and how to give fluids,
6. How to do an arterial puncture for ABG,
7. How to read an ECG or what to look for in a chest x-ray
8. Learn to correlate and tailor make you history, examination and findings to your working diagnosis
all the above may seem like easy stuffs but trust me, its the most crucial. the rest will come with experience.
:p just my humble opinion….

this is so cool…thnx dr melvin for ur opinion !!
yo, president, abt the attachment, hopefully you can help us to follow up.
we need a confirm date (you gave us info in a very ambiguos way,eg start at june or july and end at the end of july or beginning or august, something like this. ), and how it proceed, k.
cuz, you seemed to accept almost all the suggestions, like you are the GOD, listen to everyone, it made the things complicated.
GOD is complicated.
nobody really knows where the GOD come from..
so i don’t really know how things developed…
hope to listen you asap.
thanks
